Marketplace Events Acquires Home Shows in Kansas City, Launches Fall Show in Birmingham
Home Show leader grows its portfolio with strategic additions
SOLON, Ohio – August 19, 2013 – Marketplace Events announced today it has purchased three home shows in Kansas City from Patrick Riha Productions and is also launching a fall home show in Birmingham, Ala. this September.
The Kansas City acquisition includes the Kansas City Remodeling Show and the Metropolitan Lawn and Garden Show, both running in early February at the American Royal Center, as well as the Johnson County Home & Garden Show, running in late February at the Overland Park Convention Center. Patrick Riha and his wife, Kate, will continue in a management consultancy with Marketplace Events through the 2014 shows.
In addition, the sale confirms Marketplace Events will purchase Riha's Holiday Boutique, held annually at the Overland Park Convention Center, no later than 2016.
"In our opinion, Patrick and his team have created the best home shows in the region... by far," said Marketplace Events CEO Tom Baugh. "We believe these shows are an excellent growth platform and we look forward to taking these events to the next level; we're very excited to be a part of the vibrant Kansas City market." Baugh also indicated that the new Marketplace Events office in Kansas City will serve as an opportunity for the company to more aggressively expand into other markets in the US Heartland.
The addition of a new fall show in Birmingham comes on the heels of three successful years of strong growth in the Birmingham spring show. "We've seen tremendous growth in a very short time in the Birmingham market," explained Tom Baugh. "That success has served as a launching pad for us to expand further in this market with a new fall show." The company's spokesperson Ty Pennington will appear at the Birmingham Home Show, to be held September 20-22, 2013 at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center.
This transaction expands Marketplace Events' portfolio of shows to 35—including 34 consumer home events and AIMExpo, a trade and consumer show for the motorcycle and powersports industry launching in October 2013 in Orlando, Fla.
