DIY on a Dime: Sprucing Up Dollar Store Pumpkins
Halloween is right around the corner and we can't stop thinking about creepy decor, delicious candy, and scary movies! Love using pumpkins in your decorating, but hate dealing with messy seeds? Try going with faux pumpkins this year. We've got two sweet and simple crafts to take your fake pumpkins from boring to beautiful, and add some festive fun to your space.
Supplies
- Styrofoam Pumpkins
- 2 Paint Colors (we used black and gold)
- Paintbrushes
- Scissors
- Glue
- Lace Ribbon
Directions: Boo/Hello Fall Pumpkin
Step 1: Decide what words you want to use, then lightly outline them on opposite sides of the pumpkin. We chose "Boo" and "Hello Fall", so that one side could be used for the remainder of the fall season once Halloween has passed.
Step 2: Using paint and a small paintbrush, trace your outline. Repeat this step until you reach the desired opacity.
Step 3: Turn your pumpkin around and repeat step two using a different paint colour and message.
Directions: Autumn Pumpkin
Step 1: Wrap lace ribbon around the middle of your pumpkin to determine your desired length, then cut.
Step 2: Use a hot glue gun (or white glue) to fasten the ribbon to the pumpkin. One dab of glue every inch should do the trick!
Step 3: Add a fun and fetive decoration the top of the pumpkin! This part is optional, but a great opportunity to get creative. We used smaller ribbon, fake straw, and plastic berries from an old wreath to decorate ours.
We hope this helps ease your decorating woes. If you decorate pumpkins this Halloween be sure to share a fun snap with @HomeShows on Twitter and Instagram or @homeandgardenevents on Facebook! Happy Halloween from the Marketplace Events Team!
