With winters to deal with and summers to prepare for, there is always something new that needs attention in the space we call home. Renovations and remodels are always on our minds, but one thing that tends to be overlooked is gardening. Flowers may be beautiful, but need constant care and attention to stay that way. Why not get more bang for your buck with a vegetable garden?
We understand that gardening can be a 9 to 5 gig, that’s why we have this simple vegetable gardening technique to get you started with the least amount of maintenance required. That’s right, you read that correctly: do practically nothing and watch a vegetable garden grow right in front of your eyes. You can grow garlic, cherry tomatoes, and more. The benefits are endless. For one, you save some money at the grocery store. You're also helping the planet by eating local, as opposed to shipping vegetables thousands of miles to get to you. Plus, you'll have something beautiful and unique to show off in your home - big or small.
All you need is:
So, how do I get started, you ask? We want to make this fun for you and get you in the spirit of vegetable gardening, so we decided to create the tradition of #GardenGrow, an activity you can enjoy in your apartment or house every year. This year, we decided to grow some cherry tomatoes. Each year you can add a new vegetable to your plot to bring some green into your space and diet. Yum!
Step 1: Paint the brown pots with pastel spring colors and decorate them as desired. Have fun with it and paint some flowers, Easter eggs, or simple patterns.
Step 2: After the pot has dried, fill it with moist soil and leave it in the heat. Cherry tomatoes love heat, so giving them a warm bed to sprout will give you better results.
Step 3: After a day, plant the seeds and leave the pot in a spot that will constantly see the sun, like a balcony or window sill.
Step 4: You only need to water your cherry tomatoes once every 3 to 4 days. That number could decrease if it rains regularly in your area, so be sure to monitor the water your plants are receiving naturally.
And now you sit back, relax, and pick off those cherry tomatoes as they grow all season long! Cook them in your meals or eat them individually while you impress your house guests with your small, but existent, vegetable garden.
Share your garden with us using the #GardenGrow hashtag on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We love to see what you create!
