DIY on a Dime: Waffle Costume
Oct 26 2016
We’re just days away from Halloween and you still haven’t figured out your costume? If you loved the Netflix original series
Stranger Things or are just a big fan of breakfast foods, we’ve got you covered. This year blow the doors off of your costume party with an original outfit that’s sure to get lots of laughs: a waffle! Whether it’s one part of a fun couples costume (a waffle can easily be paired with Eleven from
Stranger Things, a syrup bottle, a pad of butter, and much more) or a standalone piece, one thing is for sure – this costume is a hoot to make! Read on to find out how you can create your own.
Supplies
- 3-4 pieces of Bristol board. Two colors, one for the circular part of your waffle and one for the cross hatch. We chose yellow and orange, but two different shades of yellow would work as well.
- Glue gun
- Scissors
- Harness
- X-Acto Knife (This is optional, we just found it easier to cut the large pieces of Bristol board using an X-Acto Knife instead of scissors.)
Directions
Step 1: Cut two circles sized for the individual wearing the costume.
Step 2: Cut thin strips of your second color of Bristol board. We made ours about 1” thick, but if your circles are smaller you’ll want these strips to be thinner.
Step 3: Cross hatch your strips on the circles. Remember, no waffle is perfect, so don’t stress about ensuring that everything is even. It’ll look more realistic if there’s a bit of variance between strips.
Step 4: Glue down your strips and trim the edges.
Step 5: Glue one hatched circle to the front of your harness. Glue the other hatched circle to the back of your harness.
Step 6: Rock it! We recommend wearing this costume with yellow pants, a yellow shirt, and a yellow hat.
We hope this helps ease your costume woes. If you go as a waffle this Halloween be sure to share a fun snap with
