Marketplace Events to Launch Three Additional Home Shows in Canada
Two events to be added in Ottawa, one in Edmonton
CLEVELAND, OHIO — April 7, 2014 — Marketplace Events, North America's largest home show producer, has contracted with the E&Y Centre in Ottawa to produce two additional home shows there in 2015, 2016 and beyond. Additionally, the company will launch a fall home show at the Edmonton EXPO Centre, starting in 2015.
Marketplace Events will now produce three annual shows in the Ottawa and Edmonton markets: new renovation-focused shows in January, their current home and garden shows that run annually in March and new fall home shows to run in September or October. This brings the company's North American home show portfolio to 42 total events of which 14 are in Canada (other Canadian markets include three Toronto shows, two shows each in Vancouver and Calgary, and one annual show in Montreal).
In 2014, the company’s Western Canadian shows grew 6% in sales over prior year. The existing Ottawa March show grew 5% and has now outgrown the building, which prompted Marketplace Events to look for opportunities to add more shows at the E&Y Centre. The Edmonton show had the highest attendance increase of any Canadian Marketplace Events show this year, which led to the decision to add new shows in the Edmonton market.
“We have been aggressive about growing Marketplace Events organically as well as through acquisitions,” explained CEO Tom Baugh. “Ottawa and Edmonton are two markets where we have strong show teams and solid relationships with our venues and exhibitors. It only makes sense for us to expand our reach when the market and our partners indicate they are willing to support that growth,” he continued.
The shows in Edmonton are run out the company’s Calgary office while the Ottawa shows will continue to be run by Montreal-based Expo Media, which produces Marketplace Events shows in Montreal and Ottawa.
