Meet the Stars of the Main Stage

Mar 06, 2019

Save the date! The Winnipeg Home + Garden Show is back this spring with a stellar Main Stage lineup, featuring new and familiar faces you’ll love! Happening April 4–7, 2019 at the RBC Convention Centre, the Winnipeg Home + Garden Show has everything you need to make your home work this season from paint colour to furniture, landscaping to functionality and more than 280 trusted brands and local companies.

Home and garden experts returning to the Main Stage this year include HGTV Canada’s Kortney and Dave Wilson of Masters of Flip and landscape expert and host Carson Arthur of Home to Win. Well known TV personality and lifestyle expert Amanda (Forrest) Aerin will also be headlining the Show this year, so you have no excuse not to visit with a talented lineup like this!

Before you join us at the Show, get to know our headlining stars a little bit better below!

Kortney and Dave Wilson
What began as two separate musical careers has become a lifelong partnership for Kortney and Dave Wilson. After a solid run as a country music duo, they traded in their microphones for tool belts and began flipping houses while raising their three children. With over 60 homes flipped to date, Kortney and Dave have become one of Nashville’s premiere house flipping forces, renowned as much for their acute knowledge of the local real estate market as for their artistic design in transforming run-down disasters into stunning one-of-a-kind family homes.

In Masters of Flip, Kortney and Dave Wilson breathe new life into old, rundown Nashville homes. Each one-hour episode opens with Kortney and Dave house-hunting for properties that have seen better days and gambling on which one to flip to make the most profit. With limited timelines and even tighter budgets, these Masters of Flip take on the challenge of transforming each real estate disaster into a stunning family dream home.

Carson Arthur

Carson Arthur is a landscape designer and television personality with several shows that can be seen all around the world. Throughout his 15-year television career, Carson teaches homeowners how to raise the value of their homes through outdoor renovations while maintaining a focus on environmentally friendly choices. He is part of the Cityline team; writes a column for the Halifax Chronicle Herald and the Sun media group including the Toronto Sun about outdoor design and appears regularly in a variety of magazines with guest articles. He is the North America outdoor design editor for Outdoor Lifestyle magazine; has a syndicated radio show called ‘Take it Outside’; is the spokesperson for Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate; and the author of the sold out book Garden Designs for Outdoor Living with a new book, Vegetables, Chickens & Bees that just hit the shelves earlier this spring.

Amanda (Forrest) Aerin
Amanda Aerin is an edgy designer, TV personality, brand ambassador, boss, media influencer and an inspiration. She is a nationally recognized expert in home construction, project management, design and lifestyle trends. Her approachable, fun and informative broadcast segments are seen on multiple networks including The Marilyn Denis Show on CTV, heard on radio and shared on social media outlets with a reach of approximately 3 million viewers in the last 100 days.

Smart Home Design

Mar 06, 2019
You may know Tiffany Brooks from her eight seasons on HGTV’s Design Star, but she really made her debut as the lead designer and host of HGTV’s Smart Home. Outside of TV land, she’s also the lead interior designer of her own residential interior design firm in Chicago. Tiffany Brooks Interiors Inc. specializes in luxury residential design. As an expert, her design projects have been featured in many media outlets including House Beautiful, HGTV Magazine, Essence, Domino and Architectural Digest. In addition to her many media features, Tiffany was recently recognized as one of the Top 20 African American Interior Designers in the United States.

Tiffany Brooks

It is her mission to create stunning living environments that encompass your individual needs. Tiffany has years of professional experience and we are lucky to have her visiting live at the Salt Lake Tribune Home + Garden Show. She will be sharing her expert design advice and strategies for implementing smart technology. But first, enjoy our brief interview with the talented designer.

Q: What’s one thing you wish every homeowner knew?
Tiffany: "Designers can save you money!"

Q: What décor items are worth splurging on?
Tiffany: "Lighting, wallpaper and area rugs. I love to splurge on the items that go on the 'shell of the room'."

Q: What’s something that folks should watch out for when working with a contractor or interior designer?
Tiffany: "The budget. Clear communication prevents this. Make sure your designer or contractor gives an itemized budget by category before any work gets started. This will prevent any issues down the road."

Q: What project have you been most proud to work on?
Tiffany: "Hands down the Smart Home TV series. It has elevated my career and self-confidence as a designer to unbelievable heights."

Q: What’s an easy DIY project homeowners can tackle to improve their space?
Tiffany: "Painting or wallpaper is the best way (and easiest) to change your space. I also suggest a possible DIY drape, roman or other window treatment."

Visit Tiffany online, and connect with her on Facebook: @TiffanyBrooksHGTVHost, Instagram: @TiffanyBrooksInteriors, andTwitter: @TiffanyBDECOR8. Tiffany will be appearing LIVE on the Garden Design Stage Friday. March 8th at 3pm and Saturday, March 9th at 5pm.

Floral Arrangements That Will Make Your Daisy

Mar 05, 2019
Always dreamed of creating a beautiful, one-of-a-kind floral arrangement? It’s your time to shine. New to the 2019 Indiana Flower + Patio Show is the U-Pick Blooms feature, brought to you by the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD).

U-Pick Blooms

Visitors get to pick their very own fresh-cut gorgeous bouquets and then take home the scents, colors and textures of the season. Select your blooms, and a designer from AIFD will put together an arrangement just for you. While it's being made, the designer will talk to you about the construction of the design, offer some tips and answer any questions you have.

Carolyn Kurek of AIFD anticipates some exciting floral trends for 2019. “We’re seeing a lot of vertical gardening, walls and stacked containers. Rooftop gardens are also still trending.” And here’s an interesting twist … “A new trend is the combination of flowers and vegetables in the same space, plus landscaping into the interior through windows and glass doors.”

Every year, the Indiana Flower + Patio Show brings in new floral arrangements and brand-new faces. “I enjoy connecting with all the people I meet,” Kurek said. “Making new friends and sharing my knowledge with those who want to learn more about floral design and the floral industry is my favorite part of the event.”

AIFD is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the art of floral design as a professional career. Members can learn about new varieties of flowers, products and design techniques. AIFD offers a variety of scholarship opportunities for students and designers who wish to further their education in the floral industry.

Kurek is always putting passion into everything she does. “Imagine what life would be like without flowers! After more than 45 years of doing this, I still stop and smell the roses.”

Be sure to stop by the U-Pick Blooms feature located just inside the west entrance to Expo Hall near the stage. Find the best selection in fresh-cut flowers and discover new ways to design your arrangements.

STEMS Flower Truck Delivers French-Inspired Floral Experience

Mar 04, 2019
The STEMS Flower Truck is returning to the Indiana Flower + Patio Show this year to deliver a French-inspired floral experience.

When owner and designer Katie Conway found the ’80s-era delivery truck for sale online, she knew it would be a perfect vehicle for immersing people in European culture.

STEMS Flower Truck

“It’s all in the details for me; you’ll hear French music, taste a macaron and see a selection of premium flowers at the truck,” she said. “Just like European flower markets, we believe flowers should be fresh, beautiful and accessible to all.”

The STEMS Flower Truck has been delivering premium bouquets and curated stems to the streets of Indianapolis since the summer of 2017.

When Indiana Flower + Patio Show attendees visit the truck, they’ll find a unique build-your-own bouquet experience. Each floral arrangement is hand-tied in kraft paper by Conway herself.

Planted right inside the Indiana State Fairgrounds, the STEMS Flower Truck will perfectly complement the show’s lovely surrounding scenery.

“We are very excited to be immersed into the landscape this year, so expect to see some unique and gorgeous scenery when visiting the truck,” Conway said. “STEMS will be there for the duration of the show, so come say ‘Bonjour’ any time!”

For more information and to see the truck’s annual parking schedule, visit www.stemsflowertruck.com. Follow the truck on Facebook @STEMSFLOWERTRUCK, Instagram @stemsflowertruck and on Twitter @StemsTruckIndy. The STEMS Flower Truck will be parked inside the West Pavilion for the entire run of the Indiana Flower + Patio Show. Be sure to stop by for fresh, beautiful blooms!

One Pot Pasta Primavera

Ingredients
• 8 oz Orecchiette Pasta or your favorite pasta
• ½ cc. Baby Spinach Leaves
• 1 sm. Onion, finely sliced
• 3 Cloves Garlic, finely sliced
• 1 Portobello Mushroom sliced
• 1/3 c. Spring Peas
• 1 c. Cherry Tomatoes, halved
• 1 Red Chili or seeded Jalapeno or substitute ½ tsp. Chili Flakes
• 4 T Chopped Basil
• 2 T Extra Virgin Olive Oil
• ½ c. Pecorino or Parmesan, fresh grated
• 24 oz. Chicken Stock
• Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Step 1: In a large two-inch deep-frying pan, arrange onion, spinach, mushroom, peas, tomato, garlic, chili, half the basil, and the orecchiette pasta, keeping the pasta in the center. Pour the olive oil over the top. Add the chicken stock.

Step 2: Place the pan over medium heat and bring the contents of the pan to a boil. Use tongs preferably to stir and agitate the pasta regularly. Cook for 9-10 minutes until the pasta softens, but is still firm. Your meal is ready when the pasta is cooked and the liquid is nearly evaporated, creating a sauce.

Step 3: Remove the pan from the heat and season with salt and pepper. Grate the fresh pecorino cheese on top and sprinkle the remainder basil on top of the cheese. Mix before serving. For more information about catering and cuisine inspiration, visit Cuisine Unlimited online

Check out healthy home meals and new recipes with Chef Steve and Cuisine Unlimited on the Kitchen Stage Friday, March 9th at 3:30pm and Saturday, March 10th at 10:30am.

Simple Ways to Bring Spring into Your Home

Mar 01, 2019

The blooming flowers, warm breezes and lighter colors of spring are just around the corner! Here are a few of our top tips to shake off the winter cold and revitalize your home in time for longer, sunnier days.

1. Allow vegetation inside
Nothing brings the sweetness of the great outdoors into your home like fresh cut flowers or flowering branches! They’re like a refreshing burst of sunshine, and the best part is you can pick your favorites from dogwood blooms and lilac to daffodils and roses. Buy some at your local grocery store or pluck them from your yard and dress them up in vintage blue mason jars or an elegant glass bottle. Don’t be afraid to experiment with banana leaves, palms or even papyrus, too! Flowers can provide cheer in any place in your home, including the laundry room.

2. Swap out your throw pillows and bedding
Changing your pillows is a quick and easy way to change the look of your sofa and the whole feel of your living room. Fabrics like velvet or wool can seem heavy in the warmer months. Consider lighter fabrics such as linen or printed cotton instead. Next, pick out a new duvet and shams to let the airy atmosphere outside your window seep inside. Opt for more delicate pastel hues to welcome spring and have fun decorating the end of the bed with a handmade quilt if you like to curl up with one to watch TV or read a good book.
3. Spruce up your deck or porch
Don’t forget that visitors get their first impression of your home from the outside. First, sweep your deck or porch clean. Then help make your door more inviting with a seasonal wreath bursting with fresh blooms such as pink roses, aromatic herbs and greenery. Choose decorations that bring you joy and remind you winter is melting away and giving rise to natural vibrancy. Some of our favorite options are watering cans, wooden Easter signs, woven baskets full of flowers or eggs and even a comfortable rocking chair to help you soak in the season.

4. Make your colors pop
‘Tis the season to decorate with pink! But if that’s not your favorite color, focus on lavender, rose, mint green, sky blue or honey yellow instead. Something fun to consider is sprinkling a few ceramic bird eggs around your home or a placing a decorative bunny front and center as a symbol of spring and Easter. Affordable vases, colorful books and gold-leaf pieces can also brighten your coffee table or entryway. Even a bowl of fresh oranges will remind you the cold grayness is on its way out!

5. Don’t overlook spring cleaning
Touch up any scuffs on your walls and trim with a fresh coat of paint. Sort through old paperwork and shred what you no longer need. Locate excess clothing taking up space in your drawers and closets and make a trip to your favorite charity to drop it off. Send out area rugs for spring cleaning and enjoy your bare floors while you wait for their return. Once that’s done, trade out your winter candles for ones smelling of citrus, lavender, roses, ocean breezes, sage or sandalwood.

6. Trade winter decor for spring designs

Adding in a few new pieces of artwork to your home collection is a simple way to embrace the spirit of the season. Focus on bright colors, sunny landscapes and anything inspired by nature such as the Impressionist works. Likewise, incorporating a sleek new tablecloth with a pattern that pulls the garden vibe inside and focuses on simpler patterns and lighter colors will keep you in a state of zen while you dine.

How-To Design a Gorgeous Easter Table

Mar 01, 2019

Easter is a special time for families to gather and celebrate with church services, egg hunts, chocolate bunnies and, of course, food! If you are cooking a feast for your loved ones this year, you’re probably thinking a lot about how to decorate your dining table. Here are a few of our favorite ways to bring the fresh springtime feeling indoors!

1. Paint your dining chairs: We know it sounds a little radical, but you can break up your regular, matching dining set by painting the chairs in two or three colors that work well together. Pale aqua and cream look nice for spring or a mix of pastels and brighter hues won’t steer you wrong. Of course, you can give all your chairs the same coat of light green, white or pale blue paint, too!

2. Embrace the big tray: You want your guests to feel special when they come to your home. One simple way of doing that is through pulling out a colorful dining tray you don’t use very often and loading it up with dinnertime essentials. Think napkins, plates and utensils with a vase of fresh flowers. Trays are also great ways to share appetizers like cheese and crackers, grapes, nuts, fruit and pepperoni with your company. Or keep it simple with some patterned glasses, a few beverage options, slices of lemon and a fun spring statue of a rabbit.

3. Bring the garden inside:
Add a burst of the great outdoors to your dining table with a green plant tucked into a petite urn. After the cold and dreary months of winter, looking at it is sure to brighten your guests’ day. Of course, you can also still present your favorite seasonal flowers – tulips, daffodils, peonies or pansies – in patterned vases around the room. If you want to get more creative, add blossoming branches to the mix! Pluck them from your yard and adorn the table with their beauty.

4. Fruit isn’t just for eating: A bowl of lemons or oranges can go a long way toward adding a pop of color to your table. It doesn’t just bring a sense of liveliness to the room, but it’s also an easy, affordable and practical way to incorporate nature into the mix – not to mention giving your guests something to snack on while they wait for dinner!

5. Even tables like new outfits: Start off by measuring your table and figuring out the desired drop – the amount of cloth that you want to leave draped over the edge of the table toward the floor. Make sure you’re looking at tablecloths that are the right size. For more formal occasions, tablecloths typically have a drop between 12 to 30 inches – which is all the way to the floor. Many holiday tablecloths are made from linen or cotton because they’re absorbent, soft and durable so they’ll last through multiple family get-togethers. Choose a color that complements the existing palette of your dining room. Bright colors look nice in sunny rooms, and pastels are an option if you’re dining outside. In general, spring is a time for softer colors that bring a level of refined sophistication with them. If your event is more formal, white and ivory are always safe options.

Blooms & Buds, Bursting With Color

Feb 28, 2019
Your outdoor living space should reflect you — who you are, what’s important to you and how you enjoy living your life. That’s exactly what the professional landscapers of the 2019 Indiana Flower + Patio Show will focus on: personality and personal spaces. And what do most eyes want to see when entering the Indiana Flower + Patio Show after a stark, chilly winter? COLOR!

Flower

“This year’s show is bursting with beautiful buds, more colorful and extravagant than ever,” said the show’s landscape coordinator, Bill Brown of William H. Brown Landscape. “There will be two to three times more color this year, so you’ll be dazzled with all the colorful hues and creative designs the landscapers come up with to attract and enchant you.”

“Our garden highlights the beauty and extravagance of living with tropical plants,” said Toomie Farris of McNamara Florist. “We have a lush tropical display of house and patio plants, with exotic bromeliads, dramatic orchids, unusual varieties of ferns and multiple varieties of lush tropical palms under a canopy of ficus trees. Plus, there are huge baskets of hanging gardens overhead, bringing a lush and exotic experience to visitors.”

“We are literally building a bridge over water and a dry pond of rocks and boulders to show our contemporary take on bridging the gap between ordinary and extraordinary,” said Lowell Rolsky of Pro Care Horticultural Services. “Visitors to the Flower + Patio Show should definitely expect to see the wow factor from our Pro Care garden.”

“Visitors to our ‘Wandering Garden’ will experience a wandering path and patio design with a soft screen created by evergreen trees, spring bulbs and flowering shrubs,” said Jim Calvin of Calvin Landscape. “After walking under a custom cedar arbor, landscape lighting enhances the vibrant softscape. Our garden offers the opportunity for visitors to step into a lush landscape that helps them forget it’s winter outside.”

How to Be the Hostess with the Mostess

Feb 27, 2019
It’s easy to stress about having the perfect yard for outdoor entertaining — comparing yourself to neighbors or Pinterest masterpieces. But with a little creativity, you can bring the focal point to your garden party table and create an atmosphere that is magical for everyone.

Outdoor Entertaining

And you can get some design advice at this year’s Indiana Flower + Patio Show! Five local Indiana designers have teamed up to create a display of six farmhouse tables decked out for entertaining.

Each display represents the designer’s unique style. Designers include Jessica Madison of Jessica Madison Home, Lisa Schmitz of Where Pigs Fly, Cali Ahern and Brienn Darr of Make Merry, Brin Bigler of Union Farm Goods and Lindsay Martin of Southern Sky Design.

“I am not as big into trends as I am into the importance of embracing your own style for your garden party,” said designer Liz Henderson. “Be YOU in how you decorate, and everything will fall into place.”

The beauty of decorating is any table can be transformed into a beautiful display. Choose a table base you like, and with the help of a tablecloth and fun additions, it can be stunning. If you are working within a budget, try these tips: use mason jars and fresh clippings of greenery; use old books for pedestals for your cupcakes; and mix and match white dishes from your kitchen cabinet to create a visually-pleasing palate.

“Our hope is people will be inspired to entertain and encourage their friends to do so as well,” Henderson said. “Each designer has their own idea of what it takes to throw a good party, so you can discuss many kinds of options that fit your idea of the perfect party and start planning for spring that same day.”

The designers want to inspire people to embrace what they love and use their personal style to entertain using what they already have in their homes. At the end of the day, people just love being invited to a friendly party — and the designers hope to give attendees the confidence to open their homes and invite loved ones over for garden parties.

Visit the Garden Party feature on full floral display at the back of West Pavilion and discover new ways to entertain.

6 Benefits of Smart Home Technology

Feb 25, 2019
American Family Insurance is always looking for new ways to empower you to protect your home. And smart home technology is a great start! Why? From trimming your energy bills to keeping na eye on things while you're away, there are lots of benefits.

Benefits of Smart Home Tech

Here are six reasons you should consider going smart with your home: Learn more.

Hot Home Tips

Feb 25, 2019
Meet Lindsey and Eric Bennett from HGTV’s Desert Flippers. They have been transforming outdated properties in Palm Springs, California for more than a decade. Originally from the Midwest, this property power couple started with nothing when they decided to move across the country in 2006 to pursue their dream of building a real estate empire. In just 10 short years, they have built their business together; selling real estate, originating loans, acquiring rental property and flipping over 100 homes!

Desert Flippers

Eric and Lindsey now share their success by educating and inspiring others to get into real estate investing and the renovation game. As the hosts of their own HGTV show, Desert Flippers; Eric is a savvy real estate entrepreneur/financier and Lindsey is the construction planner, manager and designer of your dreams. Life in the desert is hot and these two are no strangers to tackling projects in triple-digit temperatures! Renovating dilapidated homes while raising three small children, the Desert Flippers do it all from juggling diapers, to demo’s, to date night! This hard-working, humble duo keep their hands and hearts full.

Q & A

Q: What’s one thing you wish every homeowner knew?
Eric: "We wish every homeowner knew two things. One is basic home maintenance (replacing smoke alarm batteries, changing air filters, greasing door hinges, keeping cabinets dry..etc). The second thing would be proper insulation. Homes have a large carbon footprint and heating/AC are expensive items to the average home. There are many ways to seal up a home, decrease energy bills and help preserve the environment."

Q: Could you live in a tiny home?
A: "Lindsey and I could definitely live in a tiny home…without the kids. They could camp outside."

Q: What’s an easy DIY project homeowners can tackle to improve their space?
Eric: "One of the easiest home improvements projects someone can do is to paint something - an accent wall, entire room or even some unique furniture pieces. We have some pieces that we have painted dozens of time. They are unique pieces and we paint them to go with the color scheme of each room. It’s easy to do and it can punch up any room or bring some cohesion to a home."

Nurture Your Nature: Gardening Ideas for 2019

Feb 25, 2019
There’s no better time than spring to bring out your inner horticulturist and get to work on your garden and give your backyard some extra love. If you’re wondering what direction to take your garden, our experts from the Calgary Home + Garden Show are here to plant a few seeds (see what we did there?) to get the ideas growing.

Carson Arthur

Go Wild
Are you growing bored of your lawn? Bring a little bit of the countryside to your backyard! HGTV Canada’s Carson Arthur suggests cultivating a meadow instead of a lawn. Yes, it’s really possible! Meadows and wildflower gardens are one of the biggest landscaping trends for 2019. Another bonus? Meadows are great for the environment, as the wildflowers provide plenty of pollen for bees and butterflies! Before planting, know that meadows are sometimes regulated by towns and cities - so make sure to consult your bylaws before making any changes.

See him at the Calgary Home + Garden Show: Catch Carson Arthur live on the Home + Garden Stage presented by the Calgary Herald and Golden Acre, Friday, March 1 at 5 p.m. and again on Saturday, March 2 at 5 p.m. Stick around afterwards to ask him your own landscaping questions and to snap a selfie!

Chelsie Anderson

Make It Organic
Chelsie Anderson of Chelsie’s Gardening Soil-utions sees more and more gardeners taking cues from Mother Nature in order to support their gardens organically. Say goodbye to pesticides and hello to natural solutions, like creating a safe space in your garden where birds can lay and hatch their eggs. The hatchlings can grow to become your best pest controllers and act like a natural pesticide, helping make organic gardening easy!

Stay Mindful
Chelsie not only sees gardening as a hobby, but also as a form of “moving meditation.” As you’re gardening, pay attention to your ability to feel, taste, touch and smell your garden surroundings. This provides a form of meditation and allows your gardening to become a form of self-care. This will also help you become a better gardener and more attuned to nature. As you pay closer attention to what your plants are telling you, you can better understand what they need.

See her at the Calgary Home + Garden Show: See Chelsie in-person on the Home + Garden Stage presented by the Calgary Herald and Golden Acre, Thursday, February 28th at 5 p.m. and again on Sunday, March 3rd at 1 p.m.

Q&A With Ty Pennington

Feb 25, 2019
You might be familiar with the term, “Move that Bus!” -  Ty Pennington first garnered national attention as the quirky and creative carpenter on the groundbreaking home improvement series Trading Spaces. Later, as host of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Ty helped transform the lives of hundreds while inspiring millions more around the world to volunteer their time to help others. The show, which aired on Sunday nights, was consistently rated among television’s top 20 programs and won two Emmys for Outstanding Reality Program. Ty has been recognized as a leader in the field of volunteerism for his work on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and his role with Abode Shelters, an international charity that provides sustainable, humane housing for homeless and impoverished city dwellers.

Ty Pennington

The groundbreaking home improvement series Trading Spaces returned to TLC in 2018 after a 10-year hiatus, so viewers have had the chance to get reacquainted with Ty as a carpenter and designer. We sat down and asked Ty a few questions prior to his appearance at the Cincinnati Home & Garden Show. Enjoy!

Q: What is an easy DIY project homeowners can tackle to improve their space?
Ty: "Painting is the easiest DIY, with the most visual impact, whether you do one accent wall or an entire room. A pop of color makes a huge transformation."

Q: What is a common mistake homeowners make when they take on a home improvement project?
Ty: "Thinking they can do the tough stuff on their own. When it comes to plumbing, electrical, or heavy-duty construction, call in the pros!"

Q: What project have you been most proud to work on?
Ty: "Aside from the nearly 300 homes we built for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, it’s the house I designed in Florida for my mom and me."

Q: Where do you go online to find inspiration?
Ty: "The Instagram search page."

Q: What’s something that folks should do when working with a contractor or interior designer?
Ty: "Stay in control, ask questions, don’t be afraid to state your opinion, be true to your vision for the project, and stay realistic with your goals."

Q: What are your best outdoor decor tips?
Ty: "Keep it simple and natural. Good lighting goes a long way."

Q: If you had to move to another country, which one would you choose and why?
Ty: "That’s tough. Either Japan, where I lived when I was in my 20s, or Germany, where I lived when I was a kid. I love both countries and they feel like home."

Q: Fill in the blank: The three things I can’t live without are ____________.
Ty: "My camera, good Thai food, and friends and family."

Q: You’ve been interviewed many times. What is the one question you always wish someone would ask?
Ty: "Tell me more about your modeling career!"

Ty Pennington will take the stage on Saturday March 2nd at 1pm.  Ty will be signing autographs following his presentation, so be sure to stick around the Main Stage to get in on the fun!

Meet Tyler Wisler

Feb 23, 2019
With more than 18 years in the industry, Tyler Wisler has established himself as one of New York’s most influential and dynamic designers with an international clientele. During that time, he has been exciting people with his unique approach to tailoring environments through the integration of vintage industrial elements dovetailed with modern sensibilities. Tyler has been featured on hit shows like HGTV’s Design Star, ABC’s Good Morning America, and NBC’s George to the Rescue.

Tyler Wisler

Tyler will appear at the Cincinnati Home & Garden Show on Saturday, February 23 at 1 pm and 5 pm, and Sunday, February 24 at 12pm and 3pm. Before he takes over our Main Stage, we had the opportunity to sit down with him and ask a few questions. Enjoy our brief interview below!

Q: What do you see as the hottest 2019 design trends?
Tyler: "I’m honestly not the biggest fan of trends in general, but what I am seeing is the design concept of individuality. We aren’t classifying design in one or two words anymore. It really is a fluid mix of styles, cultures, and eras that is making design exciting right now."

Q: Where do you find your inspiration?
Tyler: "I love to pull inspiration from travel. You know when you go on a trip to an exotic place and you kind of dream about that bungalow by the sea or that suite overlooking a city skyline? That’s always something I have as inspiration."

Q: What’s one thing you can do in your home that would have maximum impact?
Tyler: "Lighting! A: Lighting is so important. The simplest thing is to start installing dimmers everywhere you can. When you control the lighting, you control the room."

Q: What’s your advice for choosing a design theme for your home?
Tyler: "A design theme? That in general does not sound good. It’s like planning for a room at a resort where cartoon characters run around. I think you need a basic concept and vision of what your story is and your general style, but a theme can lead you down a road of boring, or it looking too much like a store vignette. Very basic and vanilla, which is fine (shaking my head), but not dynamic."

Q: What are two of your must-haves when you travel and why?
Tyler: " do love bringing along a scented candle for my room to make it smell familiar. Also, I like to pack a small, framed picture for my bedside or anywhere. Small touches can make you feel more at home when you’re not."

Tyler will be sharing more stylish tips and tricks on the Main Stage at the Cincinnati Home & Garden Show this weekend - catch him Saturday, February 23 and Sunday, February 24. His presentations are an absolute must-see, trust us!
